Prep Enrolments

Your child is eligible to enter Prep if they turn five by 30 June in that school year.

Prep is the compulsory first year of schooling for children in Queensland. It is a full-time program and children attend each day from Monday to Friday during the normal school hours of 8:50am to 3:00pm at our school.

Enrolment management

Kimberley Park State School is enrolment managed. This means that we are required to prioritise places in our school to children who are living within our geographical catchment. As such, there are different enrolment processes in place depending on whether you live in-catchment or out-of-catchment

Click here to see the Education Queensland School Catchment maps.

In-catchment enrolments and siblings

·    For students who live in-catchment, or siblings of students already attending Kimberley Park State School, completed enrolment forms will be accepted from March 1 of the year before they are due to commence Prep. These students are guaranteed a position at Kimberley Park State School.

·     Enrolment forms are available on the school website or from the school office.

·     A birth certificate and acceptable proof of residence will be required to  accept  the enrolment application.

·     Office staff will need to sight one of each of the following to establish proof of residency:

One primary source – a current lease agreement, or rates notice, or unconditional sale agreement, and

One secondary source – a utility bill (e.g. electricity, gas) showing this same address and parent’s/legal guardian’s name

Please note that a Driver’s License is NOT regarded by Education Queensland as sufficient proof of residency.

·      Students living in-catchment are guaranteed a position at KPSS.

Out-of-catchment enrolments

·      For students who live out-of-catchment, completed enrolment forms will be accepted from March 1 of the year before they are due to commence Prep.

·      Enrolment forms are available on the school website or from the school office.

·      A birth certificate will be required to accept the enrolment application.

·      Students residing out-of-catchment will be placed on a waiting list in order of receipt of a complete enrolment application, via mail or email or in person.

Processing of in-catchment & sibling enrolments

As enrolment forms for in-catchment and sibling applications are processed through our school office and entered onto our electronic system, parents will be mailed a letter confirming their child’s enrolmen.t

Processing of out-of-catchment enrolments

From early September each year we regularly review our enrolment data and make ongoing decisions regarding the feasibility of accepting out-of-catchment applications. Parents will be contacted by phone after this date in the event that we are able to accommodate your request for enrolment at Kimberley Park SS.

Prep Transitions Officer

At any time our Prep Transition Officer, Mrs Kris Whitman, is happy to answer any questions you might have about our school or about Prep in particular. Her role is to support new families and help to ensure a smooth start to school for our incoming Prep students and their families. She can be contacted on 3451 5333 or emailed at kwhit86@eq.edu.au.

School Tours

Tours of our school are scheduled from Term Two on Wednesday mornings at 9:15am. Please go to www.eventbrite.com.au and search for ‘School tours’ or ‘Kimberley Park State School’ to see our event and make a booking for a date that suits you to attend. You will receive a confirmation email when you have successfully made a booking. This is a great opportunity to see our school in action, view the facilities, hear about our extensive co-curricular programs, and ask lots of questions.

If there are no online bookings made for a particular week then the Prep Transitions Officer’s time is reallocated to support students’ learning in our Prep classrooms, so please do make sure that you register as outlined above so that we can ensure staff availability to run the tour.
