Enrolling for Prep

Prep is the compulsory first year of schooling for children in Queensland. It is a full-time program and children attend each day from Monday to Friday during the normal school hours of 8.50am to 3.00pm at our school.

Your child is eligible to enter Prep if they turn five by 30 June in that school year.

The Prep Ready Reckoner Table External link will assist you in determining your child's Prep year.

Enrolment management

Kimberley Park State School is enrolment managed. This means that we are required to prioritise places in our school to children who are living within our geographical catchment. As such, there are different enrolment processes in place depending on whether you live in-catchment or out-of-catchment.

View the Education Queensland School Catchment maps External link to determine i your catchment school.

In-catchment enrolments and siblings

For students who live in-catchment, or siblings of students already attending Kimberley Park State School, completed enrolment forms will be accepted from March 1 of the year before they are due to commence Prep. These students are guaranteed a position at Kimberley Park State School.

As enrolment forms for in-catchment and sibling applications are processed through our school office and entered onto our electronic system, parents will be emailed confirmation their child's enrolment.

Out-of-catchment enrolments

For students who live out-of-catchment, completed enrolment applications will be accepted from March 1 of the year before they are due to commence Prep. Applicants will be placed on a waiting list in order of receipt of a complete enrolment application, via mail or email or in person

Throughout the year we regularly review our enrolment data and make ongoing decisions regarding the feasibility of accepting out-of-catchment applications. Parents will be contacted by phone in the event that we are able to accommodate your request for enrolment at our school.
