Park State School’s Special Education Program works from a philosophy of
acceptance and effective inclusion for students with disabilities, including
those with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Speech Language Impairments,
Intellectual Impairments, and Hearing/Vision/Physical Impairments. Our program
operates through a continuum of support services reflecting the individual
needs and diversity of students, within the areas of curriculum, communication,
social participation, emotional wellbeing, accessing the learning environment,
and health and safety. Collaboration is a central feature of our program with
specialist staff, classroom teachers, parents/carers and family members working
together, ensuring a team approach. We believe that communication, cooperation
and collaboration are essential to ensure all students achieve to their
potential academically, socially and physically.
Our goal is
to deliver high quality education programs for all students. Students with
similar needs are ‘clustered’ within our multi-age classrooms ensuring they
identify with and are supported within regular classrooms. This also enables
maximisation of specialist support. Special Education and classroom teachers
develop cooperative, professional partnerships to ensure quality education
programs for all students within their class. Special Education teachers and
teacher aides generally work within the classroom to provide individual
students’ specific programs and adjustments required to meet their ever-changing
needs and aspirations.
