Literacy is the key to unlocking the world for your child. At Kimberley Park State School our expert teaching teams provide high quality literacy instruction that is evidence informed, activity-based and student centred.
Our approach involves a balance between explicit teaching, supported practice, mastery tasks and extension activities focusing on the skills involved in listening, speaking, reading, writing and critical thinking across all key learning areas.
At the forefront of our schoolwide literacy programs are the essential pillars of literacy learning –
oral language
phonemic awareness
structured systematic phonics
fluency
vocabulary
comprehension
spelling
writing
These crucial pillars lay the foundations for student success.
Students also have opportunities throughout the year to develop their literacy skills in a variety of settings such as participating in Readers Cup, The Premier's Reading Challenge, Brisbane Writer's Festival, ICAS Academic Competitions and Springwood Writer's Festival.
Families are such important partners in the education of their child. We offer a range of Parent Workshops throughout the year focusing on the key areas of reading and writing development customised to families from Prep to Year 6. Tips to enhance the literacy development of your child are also shared each week on Face book and in our School Newsletter, which is distributed twice per term.
Exceptional classroom practices must be celebrated and shared, so we reach our community via regular email, Facebook and Instagram posts that highlight the outstanding literacy practices occurring across all classrooms. Students, Teachers, and outstanding teaching practices feature in these posts, to keep our families up to date with the fabulous learning episodes that all our students experience on a day-to-day basis.
