At Kimberley Park State School, we focus on nurturing a positive mindset towards Mathematics, designing engaging lessons that are intentional, and purpose driven and that encourage deep mathematical thinking. Children develop flexible thinking as they work collaboratively and independently through mathematical investigations. Mistakes are expected and used as learning opportunities. Hands on materials and games are readily available and the students have access to the online platforms of Mathletics and Mathseeds. The mathematical climate in our classrooms is one of confidence, acceptance, and perseverance.
Before school Math Clubs run for Years 3, 4 and 5, Mondays to Thursdays and a group of our Year 6 students, along with students from schools all over Australia, New Zealand, and other neighbouring countries, take part annually in the Australasian Problem-Solving Mathematical Olympiads.
