Japanese

Japanese is offered to students in the middle and upper schools. Apart from classroom teaching of Japanese language and culture, extra cultural activities are also offered to students. Students of Japanese are involved in the Japanese Cultural Day, Lunchbox Picnic, Speech Competitions and the Japan Study Tour.

Cross-cultural integration in the classroom is also part of the LOTE lesson, in both the technological and personal forms. Students can communicate with students in Japan via email – our ‘ePals’ project. Frequent interaction with native speakers is an important aspect of the L.O.T.E. classroom. Each year a Japanese Assistant Teacher from Japan comes to Kimberley Park State School and assists in the teaching of language and culture.

Annually, Kimberley Park State School is the host school for groups of students from Japan. These exchange students are incorporated into the daily school program for the duration of their stay. Families within the school community host these students, which has proven to be a valuable experience for both students and the host family.
